I completed this gearbox design over the course of two classes focused on learning SolidWorks. I was given instruction on modeling the different parts and assenblies in SolidWorks, but these parts were initially filled with design flaws, courtesy of our Mechanical Design instructor. Through learning design ptronciples such as fastener assembly, I was ab;e to apply those principles to accurately specify retaining ring and bushing sizes, as well as properly design and tolerance the mating features on the designed parts such as the shaft fits and the groove dimensions and tolerances.
Completing this gearbox was a huge learning process for becoming comfortable using SolidWorks to do mechanical design and become proficient in applying mechanical design principles.
